How I Tested and Rated Each Faraday Bag
I have spend countless hours researching and testing a ton of Faraday bags on the market to come up with this list of the best ones. Here is a video of us testing the Mission Darkness Faraday cell phone bag.
The Cell Phone Test
I placed my cell phone inside the bag and used the Mission Darkness app to measure signal, or lack of signal. Not all bags made the cut with some leaking out signals due to poor quality. I also tried to call my cellphone while it was inside the bag, if it went straight to voice mail I knew the bag was working.
Keyless Entry Remote Test
I put my keyless entry remote inside the bags and pressed the button to see if it still works.
The EMF Meter Test
I used my EMF meter to test for signals and EMF protection. None of the bags on this list had any radiation leaks.
User Reviews
I have read over all the customer reviews on Amazon and the manufacturers websites to ensure high customer satisfaction.
The Durability Test
I go back and test the bags after 6 months of use and 12 months of use to make sure that they are still working like they are suppose to.
Who Needs this level of protection?
I wish I could say only high up political and military leaders, or the Hollywood elite with super-stalkers need this type of protective technology.
Unfortunately, I truly believe that everyone does because of the level of cyberattacks, location tracking, overreach, and just terrifying technology that can take your information and take over use of your electronics.

Threat Of EMPs
There’s so much talk and threat of EMPs, and knowing government agencies and probably large corporations have invested in protection for such an attack, it’s a good idea for you to be prepared too. One large Faraday duffel bag or backpack can hold a lot of emergency electronics for you, if the grid is wiped out.
Danger of EMFs
Knowing how bad EMFs actually are for you (based on thousands of scientific research papers), using shielding compartments that keep that electromagnetic radiation off your body is a good thing for everyone, including young children and babies who aren’t even using your wireless devices but will potentially have long-term consequences from their exposure.

If law enforcement, military, forensic investigators, political leaders and, corporate bosses are using this technology then why shouldn’t we?
Frequently Asked Questions
I get a lot of questions about these pouches and bags. It’s great that lots of people are using Faraday bags to secure their devices and protect themselves. Here are the most common questions I get asked.
You can also check out my Faraday bags FAQ article for even more commonly asked questions.
What Are Faraday Bags?
They are military grade bags that block RF signals from being received or sent by any electronic device within the bag (ie cell phone, tablet, laptop).
Named after the inventor of the Faraday cage, Michael Faraday, these bags are often extremely durable and come in a variety of sizes to suit all your needs. They protect you from hackers, trackers, identity theft, EMPs, and EMF radiation.
Faraday technology is used by the military prevent surveillance and secure their data, and digital forensics investigators to prevent remote wiping of confiscated electronics. WiFI, Cellular (including 5G), Bluetooth, RFID, radio waves and all other wireless technology can’t penetrate it..
How Do I Use a RF Blocking Bag?
All you have to do is put your devices (phone, key fob, tablet) inside the bag and make sure it is sealed properly and your devices are protected. Use the other compartments how you would use any other bag.
Do Faraday Pouches Actually Work?
Yes, they do. My favorite brands independently test their effectiveness. Since these bags are used by military and law enforcement, you can guarantee that they do what they’re supposed to do.
Faraday cages are used in important research laboratories around the world and government buildings to protect valuable info and research.
What Are The Benefits of Using a Signal Shielding Bag?
Faraday bags keep your devices completely off grid and protected. Here are some of the great things about these bags;
- Reduce EMF exposure
- Block hackers and tracking
- Shield from RFID skimming
- Protect electronics from EMPs
- Block GPS signal tracking
- Keep work and personal info secure
Do they protect against an EMP?
Yes, if your Faraday bag is well constructed then it will shield your electronics from an electromagnetic pulse (both natural and man-made).
It’s a good idea to keep a spare cellphone, laptop, extra chargers and rechargeable batteries, some medical equipment, power tools, radios, an inverter or portable power source, and an EMF meter or radiation meter in your storage bag at all times.
Do they block phone calls?
Yes, once you properly close your bag to complete the cage, cellular signals cannot get through to your phone. If you’re waiting for an important call – you can always keep your cellphone in an unprotected pocket until the call is done.
Do they block 5G?
These bags block RF radiation from 0-10GHz and since the 5G network currently falls within this range, they do block 5G signals.
Do I really need one?
Well that really is entirely up to you. But I believe they are valuable bags to have in your home (in case of an EMP) and to use on a daily basis to block unwanted sources from accessing your device and reduce the RF emissions around you.
If you don’t carry your laptop or tablet around with you regularly then maybe you only need a phone pouch, backpack, or purse. If you travel a lot, then a larger bag may be more useful for you.
Do pouches stop working?
If you purchase a high quality Faraday pouch then no they shouldn’t stop working. The shielding mesh and the outer material are designed to last a long time. If you buy a cheaper bag the mesh can become damaged by taking your keys in and out often.
You should test your pouch regularly. You can easily do this with your keyfob by seeing if you can get in or start your car while the keys are in the pouch or if you can receive a call or text with your mobile phone in it.
What are the drawbacks?
The biggest drawback is that you won’t be able to receive any calls or text messages with your phone shielded. This of course is the entire point of using one but some people misunderstand their function and so many are addicted to their phones so this is a challenge.
How do I make one?
A cage is a lot easier to make than a shielding bag. Cages just need to be completely enclosed with metal, without any openings.
Compartments for bags are trickier, you need to sew Faraday mesh fabric (which you can buy online) and you must make sure your enclosure seals completely, otherwise it won’t work.
8 Faraday Facts
- The average bag can hold up to 10 different devices.
- A quality bag has an average life of 10 years.
- Most bags can withstand up to 10,000 volts of static electricity and can block up to 18 GHz of electromagnetic radiation.
- The earth’s magnetic field can penetrate a Faraday cage – but the Earth has amazing grounding benefits so this isn’t a bad thing.
- The Journalist who worked with whisleblower, Edward Snowden used one of these bags throughout his interviews.
- Most bags (especially high quality ones) have a shielding effectiveness of 99.9%.
- Every 39 seconds there is a new attack somewhere online, with 22 billion records breached in 2021 alone.
- The first cage was invented in 1836 by Michael Faraday
